July 3 - Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus

Thursday, 02 July 2026

July 3 is the most important date in the history of Belarus, Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus. This public holiday was established in honor of the liberation of Minsk from the Nazi German invaders in 1944 and symbolizes the victory, freedom, and independence of the Belarusian people. According to the results of the 1996 republican referendum, this date was approved as Independence Day.

However, Belarus's path to full state sovereignty began earlier, at the turn of the 1990s. On July 27, 1990, the Supreme Council of the BSSR adopted the Declaration on State Sovereignty, which proclaimed the political and economic independence of the republic. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, on August 25, 1991, this document received the status of a constitutional law, which established Belarus as an independent state.

Later, on September 19, 1991, the country officially changed its name from the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic to the Republic of Belarus. This step became an important milestone in affirming national identity and state self-governance.

Independence Day is not only a commemoration of important historical events but also an expression of respect for the values of freedom, sovereignty, and the right of the people to determine their own future. Every year, Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus unites all those who hold the fate of their country dear.

HAPPY HOLIDAY, DEAR CITIZENS!!
